Counsel
Dal Burton, Jr. is Counsel at NowackHoward, where his practice focuses on commercial real estate, business transactions, corporate governance, and risk management. He brings more than ten years of experience advising businesses, lenders, investors, and property owners on transactions and operational matters that span multiple industries. His background in private practice, title insurance underwriting, and in-house counsel roles gives him a broad view of how legal risk affects a deal from every angle.
Clients rely on Dal for guidance on acquisitions and dispositions, contract negotiation, entity formation, financing transactions, title matters, and regulatory compliance. He identifies risks early in the transaction process and builds solutions that keep deals moving toward a successful close. His work covers commercial, residential, and mixed-use properties, along with complex financing and development projects.
Before joining NowackHoward, Dal served as General Counsel for a private family office, acting as chief legal officer for a portfolio of operating entities with commercial real estate holdings across multiple states. He managed acquisitions and dispositions, negotiated financing and franchise agreements, structured business entities, and handled regulatory and operational matters across a diverse portfolio.
His work in the title industry sharpened his eye for the issues that most often derail a transaction. As Underwriting Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company and previously with Chicago Title Insurance Company, he advised attorneys, lenders, and investors on title insurance, underwriting, and transactional risk in complex commercial real estate matters.
Earlier in his career, Dal represented buyers, sellers, lenders, developers, and investors in more than 200 real estate transactions while practicing with McManamy McLeod Heller. That volume of closings, from initial contract through final signature, shapes how he counsels clients today: with an eye toward what actually moves a deal forward.
